How to Upload with Fetch

These instructions assume you are using a Macintosh computer in the Cabrillo High Tech Center that is running Fetch (version 3). If you are at home, make sure you have an active Internet connection. If you are using Windows 95/98, follow the WS_FTP instructions instead.

To download Fetch, go to:
http://www.dartmouth.edu/pages/softdev/fetch.html

1) Put your floppy into the floppy drive of your computer.

2) You'll be using Simple Text to edit your pages, and Fetch to publish them.

3) Launch Fetch, and log in to the Web server.

To do this, put the following settings into the "New Connection..." dialog box that appears after you launch Fetch:

Host: ftp.meyerconsult.com
User ID: wpd??   Using the wpd login your instructor gave you
Password: assigned by instructor
Directory: leave blank

(If a "New Connection..." dialog box does not appear in Fetch, go to the "File" menu and choose "New Connection...")

4) Upload your HTML page into your directory, as text format. To upload a graphic use "Raw Data" format.

To do this, click on the "Put File" button to navigate to your file. Double-click on the file name to "open" it. At this point you can rename it if necessary. Make sure it is uploaded as text. Click "OK" to upload it.

5) View your page in Netscape.

To do this, launch Netscape and go to the URL:

(replace wpd?? with your wpd login).
