Opening and using three web browsing windows for use with this class

The first windowHomework Questions

  1. First, double click on Netscape Navigator.  This opens one Netscape window, going to the default web page for your Netscape.
  2. In that Netscape window, go to the URL for the class syllabus.  Navigate to the homework assignment.
  3. You now have opened your first Netscape window, the one with the homework questions.   It will always be titled "CIS Questions 11 to 15" (or whatever the questions are you are working on).
The second windowYahoo Mail

  1. In Netscape, go to File menu, select New, then select Navigator Window. In Internet Explorer, go to File menu, select new and Window
  2. On Netscape, you will get a new window which loads the default page for that Netscape. In Internet Explorer, you will get a new window with the contents of the last window you were looking at (the homework questions). It doesn't matter which page comes up, you want to go to the URL for Yahoo (www.yahoo.com), and hit enter to load that web page. Log in to your e-mail account on Yahoo.
  3. You have now opened your second window.  It will always be titled "Yahoo! Mail."
The third windowResearch

  1. Go to File menu, select New, select Navigator Window. In Internet Explorer, go to File menu, select new and Window
  2. In that Netscape window, go to the URL for Yahoo (www.yahoo.com), or whichever search engine you will be using to do your research. For homework 3/4 I recommend using Yahoo.
  3. You will use your search engine to find web sites, and click on the links to those sites.  The title of this window will always change, depending on the site you are on.
  4. The Back button is the memory for the sites you have been to in that window.  Click and hold down on Back to get a list of all the sites.  Choose "Yahoo!" to go directly back to Yahoo's main page.
Navigating between windowsUse your status bar

With each window you open, a new icon will appear in your status bar. The Title of the window is what will be listed. You just click on the Icon in your status bar to switch. Mac Users--You do not have a status bar, so you will need to go to the "Communicator" menu (on Netscape) or the "Window" menu (on Internet Explorer) to get a list of windows that are open.

Copy and PasteHave the computer take a copy of that URL for you
  1. In your Research Window find the web site to answer your question.
  2. Click once on the URL to highlight it.
  3. Once the URL is highlighted, go to the Edit menu, and choose Copy.
  4. Click on the Icon in your status bar which says "Yahoo! Mail" to switch to your email.
  5. Inside an email message to me, put your cursor where you want the URL to go, and go to the Edit menu and choose Paste.
